About CVW

Coretta van Wijk graduated from The Design Academy in the Netherlands in 1997 after studying the lauded 'man and living' curriculum, a strong conceptually driven programme focussing on product, furniture and interior design led by Gijs Bakker (Droog design)

She then moved to London, embarking on a stint of interior design with Brinkworth Design.

During this time she designed and project-managed various contemporary retail projects, including Karen Millen and Whistles, developing an intense involvement in furniture design, specialising in Glass and UV bonding. Through this work she has gained a strong knowledge base which, coupled with an affinity for materiality in her work, has tested and taken material design to new levels.

This passion and affinity for materials has inspired a range of handmade jewellery. The range displays her passion in the way the designs are conceived, the material gets transformed into original work and great innovative detail is obtained, particular in her weave collection.

During 2001, whilst employed at Brinkworth, Coretta won the competition to design the trophy for the FX awards. This design incorporates Corian, pushing the material to its limits, and establishing and strong icon for the FX magazine which is reused each year. Project completed with Brinkworth design, Bite, Casio and Karen Millen, also have been awarded with FX design awards.

For a couple of years Coretta has been working freelance as a design consultant for various clients including Jasper Conran. She has also developed a new line of contemporary glass and mirror products called 'Miracles' in co-operation with Glass Design Ltd. The Miracles range was launched at 100% Design 2004.

Coretta is currently associate director for GPStudio, www.gpstudio.uk.com.

Coretta is also working to develop her jewellery range from her London studio and continues to explore her design work in collaboration with manufacturers, paying close attention to materiality and technical excellence, creating objects of beauty and functionality within projects of various scale and complexity.
